Meet The Team
Lindsay Nexsen, DPT, PT
With a desire to fill the void in specialized, medically driven exercise programs, Lindsay opened Functional Fitness RVA in 2018. What started with two Rock Steady Boxing classes for people with Parkinson's disease has gradually evolved into specialized group exercise classes for adults with Parkinson's, mild cognitive impairment, or other conditions associated with aging. Lindsay is passionate about providing exercises to keep these populations as strong and mobile as possible.

Lindsay received her undergraduate degree from The College of William and Mary and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University. As a licensed Physical Therapist working in private practice, she has extensive experience treating patients with neurological diagnoses, gait disorders, and nonsurgical and surgical orthopedic conditions. She utilizes her medical knowledge and practical experiences when designing exercise programs for Functional Fitness RVA.
The effort and determination that Lindsay sees from the participants in the gym inspire her daily. Lindsay keeps herself busy with her three little ones and beloved black lab. She is lucky to have a supportive husband who she counts on to keep equipment at the gym in working order!
Lindsay teaches Rock Steady Boxing, Think Fit, and Functional Stretch classes.
Favorite exercises: jumping jacks and rotational stretches
Our Mission

We offer classes for those living with Parkinson's disease, brain change (mild cognitive impairment/dementia/Alzheimer's), and/or stiffness and balance decline due to the aging process.
